How to Restore the Default Libraries in Windows

Did you accidentally delete one of the default libraries by mistake? Here’s how to get it back.

Restoring the Default Libraries

Simply open explorer by clicking on the folder icon located on the taskbar.

Then right-click on the libraries section in the navigation pane and select Restore default libraries from the context menu.

That’s all there is to it.

This is also a great tip if your libraries somehow get broken, which has happened to me before. Just deleting all the libraries and restoring all of them will solve the problem.

If you do this, does it only restore your defaults, leaving your user-created libraries intact, or does are those user-created libraries deleted?

Good question. At least in Windows 8, it will leave your user-created libraries alone. I don't have Windows 7 to test, but I can't imagine it would be different.

Thank you!! You came in time! Something deleted my libraries for some reason and every time they open I get an error, so now their back, thx

This actually solved a separate problem that I was having with an error message every time I went to my documents folder.

I'm posting the error and solution (the same one) as a separate post tomorrow, just in case anybody else has the same issue.

When the libraries get so corrupted that they'll no longer restore from the context menu, it's time to either create a new profile and move your data files to it (from the new profile, you'll have to take ownership of the old profile), or install a fresh copy of windows and move your data files to the new install. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.
