Make VLC Player Look like Windows Media Player 10

The VLC Media Player is an open source, cross-platform media client that supports the vast majority of media formats. One of the great features is that it supports skins that work across different platforms. This article will cover installing on both linux and windows.

You will first need to download the skin named MediaPlayer from the skins page. This skin looks a lot like Windows Media Player 10. It’s not exact, but it’s a pretty good skin.

To install on Ubuntu Linux:

Hit Alt+F2 to bring up the run dialog, and type in this:

vlc -I skins2

This will bring up the player in the right mode to let you install new skins. Right click on the title bar area and choose Select Skin \ Open Skin, and choose the skin file that you have downloaded.

That’s pretty much all there is to it.

To install on Windows:

Select the “VLC media player (skins)? option from the Start menu program group. This will start VLC in the right mode to select skins.

Right click on the title bar area, and choose Select skin \ Open skin and choose the skin file that you have downloaded.

Easy stuff. Now you have a great looking media player.

Thanks for tip. VLC is low on visual appearance, but it does play anything.

Does NOT work; first off I don’t have VLC on my start menu.
Second… after wondering around the interface for a long time I finally found a place to put in the PATH to a skin ; which kind of worked.
Let’s make it easy ; just send me the registry keys and I’ll put them in instead. I routinely edit the registry so I’m somewhat of an advance user.

Just use the PHP BB mods for the Bulletin Board

VLC does not seem to work in Vista Premium. I’m using VLC version 0.8.6b. I love this application and I consider it the best out there. Before (under Windows XP Pro sp2) I had no problems with it. However I am frustrated about the fact that I can’t get it to work under Vista. Any body experienced this? Can anyone help me resolve this issue.

i’m using linux(ubuntu) i downloaded the vlc skins n then transfered them to ~/.local/share/vlc/skins2, i then changed vlc to skin mode; after which it brought up “open a skin file” window. I typed “.local/share/vlc/skins2” then selected one of the downloaded skin files. then clicked open.
To my disappointment it brought up the same “open a skin file” prompt window and another “Errors” window wit the following message “VLC could not open the file~/share/vlc/skins2/default.vlt”
Now i cant even load vlc coz it prompts for “open a skin file”. …….What can i do geek?
