Using Comments in Word 2007 Documents

The comment tool in Word 2007 is a great way to proof-read a report or thesis paper and make notes to yourself instead of writing them onto a sheet of paper.

Open your Word Document.  On the Ribbon click the Review tab, and click on the New Comment Icon.


Highlight the area where you want to create a note and Word adds a balloon linking to that text where you can add your notes.


After organizing my thoughts on this rough draft I choose the “Show all Revisions Inline” option.

This makes it easier to maintain the clean interface on the document.  Just hover your mouse over the noted text to see the comment.

    Is there a way to turn off the hightlight for the comments? I would like just the brackets with a line to the comment? Anyone know?

    When reviewing/editing in Word 2007, comments are allowed in the document portion, but the comment icon is not usable when reviewing footnotes. Is there a work-around for this or am I overlooking something obvious.

    I did it yesterday by mistake and am trying to find out how to do it again. I found the feature on full screen reading by creating a comment that was too big to fit in the space provided, it automatically opened up a panel with all my comments. Still searching for a way to bring it up with out making an oversized comment though

    So I know this isnt a very clever way, but just make a new comment and hit return /enter until the comment stretches off screen, then delete the comment. Brings up the comment summary panel.

    Does anybody know how to expand the comment area? I have selected some text and put a comment next to them, but now I would like that comment to include the rest of the paragraph. Can I do this without having to delete the comment and insert a new one? Or can I expand the comment area?

    Under the Review ribbon, click Reviewing Pane. That will bring up an ordered list of all the comments in your document.
