Get Customizable Distraction-Free Writing with CreaWriter

Are you looking for a distraction-free writing software that lets you choose the background and sounds? Then you will want to take a look at CreaWriter.

CreaWriter in Action

When you start CreaWriter for the first time you will see this background and hear a “running/trickling water” sound file. Definitely a nice start on a peaceful writing environment.

Here is a closer look at the “Tools Sidebar”. If you hover your mouse over each button you will see a tooltip appear showing what that button does. For those who are curious we also have a list right here for you.

  • New – Configuration – Exit
  • Save As – Save – Open
  • Little Font – Medium Font – Big Font
  • Font A – Font B – Font C
  • Sound On/Off – Background On/Off – Transparent On/Off

This is the “Configuration Window”. You can enable/disable the effects or choose a new background/sound file (just click inside the blank). When you are finished click “Aceptar”.

Here is our sample document with a custom background, the sound and transparency deactivated, and as much scrollable writing space as we need. Going back and forth between CreaWriter and our other apps was as simple as clicking the “Windows Key”.

Note: Having transparency activated will let background apps, etc. be slightly visible through CreaWriter.

One thing stood out when we went to save our sample document…no file-type extensions displayed in the drop-down list. Being curious we decided to choose three common file-type extensions and see what the results were. We were very pleased to see that we could save our sample document in .txt, .rtf, and .doc formats. So if you go to save a file you will need to manually add the extension to the end…

Our sample document saved as a .txt file…

Then saved as a .rtf file…

And finally saved as a .doc file. Not bad at all…

If you have been wanting a distraction-free writing software that allows you to customize the background and/or sounds, then this is the one that you have been waiting for. For another great distraction-free writing software see our article about WriteMonkey.

How can you claim that the written word accompanied by pictures, sounds and a whole host of multimedia addons are “Distraction Free”.

No: “Writing to distract the reader & sell your product” is a more appropriate title.

This program gives you all the bells and whistles to help you distract the attention of your potential customer from the mandatory information you have to provide about your product, which in most circumstances would deter purchase.

@earthling – Depending on the particular individual some find having a “calm scenic background” and “nature sounds” beneficial to their work. Others may not…it is all up to the individual and both features can be easily turned off if desired.

CreaWriter is freeware and any donations made to the software author are on a voluntary basis.

In our tests the software performed exceptionally well and the variety of formats that documents can be saved in is yet another very nice feature of CreaWriter.

I’m not gonna lie, I was a little jealous of omniwriter for mac. If I wanted full screen simple text, I’d do full screen notepad with the titlebar removed (*cough* autohotkey *cough*). But it helps to have something pretty to look at while writing. Granted, you can have the same environment without the program (minimize all programs, open notepad, hide taskbar, pretty wallpaper, music player with keyboard shortcuts + virtual desktops – if you want an easy transition to the environment while working on other items), but it’s nice to have a program that does it all in one step. Only criticism I have is that the text box is off-center, which is a bit distracting. The config area hides when you’re in the writing area anyway, so I’d prefer if it were more to the side or below the text area to allow for center placement of the text area

For a fairly novice user-but getting better every day,in large part because of this site- could I get some feedback on running computer as administrator? I am the only person using the computer and I am finding it to be so much easier than going back and forth.Oh,my os is 7 Ultimate ..Thanks

Oops sorry that this question landed in the middle of this discussion-

Ummm…just about every word processor has a full-screen mode that gets rid of all the menu items and lets you type on a blank screen. Why replace your word processor for this when your word processor already has the feature?

Wow, great “free”ware. If you don’t donate, you can’t use wordcount, not change between text styles (something I find essential in any word processing software) and not change the volume for the sounds you may have chosen. In the free version, you can’t even save as TXT. So no thank you, great idea, but just another try to sell freeware, without using that ugly s-word. They could at least call it that *-)
