Friday Fun: Road of the Dead

By Akemi Iwaya on October 15th, 2010

After a long week it is time to have some fun while waiting for quitting time to arrive. This week we have something to get your adrenaline pumping as you try to escape a city being overrun by zombies.

Note: The game does contain some inappropriate language.

Road of the Dead

The object of the game is to escape from Evans City alive and without becoming infected by the zombies. There are four different level types that you can play…the default is set for The Great Escape.

Note: The game may take a few moments to load depending on your internet connection speed.

You can change the keyboard control keys to a preferred configuration for better control during the game if desired.

While it is not essential to watch the intro it does help provide a quick background for the game as you listen to the emergency radio broadcasts…

Lock your doors & windows? Stay hidden? Martial law is now in effect? The dead are still walking? Whoa! Time to get out of town!

At the beginning of the game (or if your character dies on the road) you will start off from the garage area. The longer you survive and the better your performance while driving, the more road points you will receive. These points can be used to buy upgrades for your car to make it stronger and faster and you can also purchase personal protection as well.

You can see the next part of the escape course you need to travel in the lower right corner.

If you go with the default keyboard setup you will use the W Key to accelerate, the S Key to engage the brakes, the A Key to turn left, and the D Key to turn right. You will start off down the highway and find that the roads are full of all kinds of obstacles as the city descends into total chaos.

Which way to turn?!!

If you are not going fast enough and hit a zombie, you are going to have quite a time dealing with them while they try to break through your windshield to get at you.

Things can get quite messy if your windshield gets cracked or is covered in zombie remains. Hitting blue water barrels along the way will help to clean zombie remains off of your windshield.

So much for the windshield…and that last hit has smoke rolling from under the hood! You need to keep going long enough to make it through “checkpoints” where your progress will be saved. The checkpoints are manned by military personnel who will do their best to shoot you and stop you from making it through. If you fail to reach or make it through the checkpoint you simply play that part of the course over again.

We suffered a crash and burn after making it through the checkpoint. You will be presented with points or penalties depending on your performance through each section.

Time to get some awesome upgrades!
