How-To Geek

Typosquatting refers to the practice of registering slightly misspelled variants of popular ‘brand name’ URLs as domains. The hope is to catch people who mistype the URL of the official ‘brand name’ website, which then leads them to the ‘false’ one instead.

Once the individual has reached the ‘false’ website, they may be presented with a variety of results such as: competitive products, pages that will redirect the individual to websites with related products and/or services, products that have no relation to what the individual was looking for, lots of ads, or perhaps some kind of political message or other type of information related to a particular cause.
