How-To Geek

Subnotebooks are a class of portable computers designed to be smaller and lighter than a typical laptop computer, yet still run a full fledged operating system (such as Windows 8) and not a lightweight mobile-device operating system (such as Windows CE).

These smaller computers typically have screens less than 14 inches, weigh under 4.5 pounds, and have slender bodies–many subnotebooks achieve their thin styling by omitting ports and optical drives typically found on larger gaming and business class laptops.
