OAuth is an open standard for authorization that is widely used to allow users to authorize themselves on web applications, mobile apps, and other tools by using already existing credentials.

For example, if you’ve ever used a web application that gave you the option to authorize yourself using your Google Account credentials in place of signing up for a totally new and discrete login for that service, you’ve used OAuth.
