Electronic Waste

Electronic Waste, also referred to as e-waste and e-scrap, is a term applied to the stream of waste generated by discarded electronics such as monitors, cellphones, and other electronic devices large and small.

Waste electronics differ from most other waste (such as household waste and food service waste) in that they have a very high level of environmental contaminants such as lead, heavy metals, and flame retardant chemicals in addition to their plastic and glass components. Effectively separating the components and recycling them is both time consuming and expensive.
