How-To Geek

A compiler is a program used to convert source code into machine code that the computer can understand. Because object code is unique to the platform it is running on, different compilers must be used for each computer regardless of the programming language. For example, if you want to use a program written in C to work on a PC, you would use a C compiler for a PC whereas if you wanted it to run on a Macintosh, you’d use a Mac-compatible C-compiler.
