Big Mother

Big Mother refers to the use of technology by parents to track and monitor their children. At times this can, and does, include monitoring the people who help take care of children such as babysitters, nannies, school officials, etc.

Examples of Big Mother technology include: GPS-enabled mobile phones, RFID tags embedded in clothing and school bags, video and audio monitoring, debit or charge cards ‘specially issued’ to children by their parents, secure school websites that parents can log into to monitor their children at school, and GPS-navigation systems on buses that carry children.
