Google is officially done trying to teach all of you to shoot your videos properly, so they’re going to make vertical videos look slightly better.

Previously YouTube.com put black bars around vertical videos, rightly showing uploaders the error of their ways. As of this week, however, the bars are gone, which looks cleaner and utterly fails to shame people too lazy to turn their phones sideways. The change is slowly rolling out to users, so you might now have it yet.

This is going to make vertical videos a lot less annoying to watch on the site, which is a good thing. I’m just an old man who feels like rambling about the kids these days. I want to watch videos using my two eyeballs—which are placed alongside each other, not one above the other.
