For the past several days, actually since my Windows 7 64-bit system has updated itself on 12 November 2009, I get intermittent and major problems with Windows Explorer which states, "Windows Explorer has stopped working" followed by "Windows Explorer is restarting..."

The event from the Windows Application Log is as follows:

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7600.16404, time stamp: 0x4a765771
Faulting module name: MPR.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdf74
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000000000a1bd
Faulting process id: 0x1154
Faulting application start time: 0x01ca67c5cc291ca3
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MPR.dll
Report Id: 44b2056f-d3b9-11de-9389-005056c00008

I ran SFC /SCANNOW and also restarted with the installation DVD to run chkdsk /r. The latter worked for only 1 day (about 2 reboots) then I started receiving the alert again that Windows Explorer stopped working and restarted.

What I also found weird is when I tried to shutdown, it logged me out and did not run shutdown....

Do I have to reinstall? I tried doing a system restore point back to last week, but when I tried, it stated that there was nothing to restore back to ....

I cannot believe this ... after moving from a Mac.... Makes my life even more frustrating...

You could download a new mpr.dll from here. No guarantee though that it works since this is a Vista version.
