Anyone know if softonic.com is a safe site. Was attempting to download a program (freeware) for completing a pdf form I received in email. Received warning from AVG 2011 that malware had been detected. Am aware that sometimes that happens because one is visiting a new site. Thought I had seen "softonic.com" elsewhere previously, but only in passing. Not familiar with them......so I am just checking to see if anyone knows if they are OK.

Thank you for any input you may be able to provide.

http://pdf-xchange-viewer.en.s.....ad#pathbar

Was on the above page.

Story....received email with application form to fill out. DON'T have Adobe Acrobat Writer and am supposed to return this bad boy tonight, so was hunting for a possible freeware-type writer, so that I might complete the form. Right now, can't afford the real deal......hubby just had liver resection surgery for stage 4 cancer and neither of us is working, so was just looking for a make-do substitute for tonight. The browser presented softonic's page as a possible answer to my search. Then the warning showed up and I was scared, so I asked in the place I knew I would probably get the right information!

Thanks, LH and ronniesonora for the input!

Are you just wanting a pdf viewer ?
If so,

Or for creating,
http://www.filehippo.com/download_pdfcreator/

Best wishes to your husband......he will have no problem.

THanks for the kind words, LH.

As for the tech issue, I have Adobe Acrobat 8 for reading. I am needing the ability to "fill in the blanks" on a pdf. I am going, though, to look at the PDF Creator link you provide. I just need to return this form tonight, IF I can, so that it is in the recipient's office 500 miles away by the morning! LOL (Don't have a Leer at my disposal!!! LOL)

LH,

I clicked your link to filehippo.com for downloading PDF CREATOR, and I received the AVG Malware detected warning, as I had done for Softonic. I am thinking that maybe it is happening because it is an "unknown" site? I KNOW HTG isn't going to send me someplace that is really a problem. Thing is, now AVG won't let me exit the warning, move it to vault or allow. All I can do is drag the warning off to the side of the screen and work around it. I am quite confused.

In the 3+ years I have been on this forum, AVG has caused more headaches than I can tell you.
I would uninstall it with this (in Advanced mode),
http://www.revouninstaller.com/
And install either,
http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/
or this,
http://www.filehippo.com/downl.....ssentials/
instead.

Downloaded from grisoft.com in originally in March, 2010. Been using AVG since 2003. Did however recently download AVG 2011 Free when it was released. Come to think of it, I have been having an issue with that all day long. Keep telling me that the anti-virus and anti-spyware is outdated. Everything else is fine. Windows Security is telling me that the anti-virus is outdated. I tried earlier today to remove the program so that I might reinstall it, but it won't be removed (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs). I also have Norton Security and McAfee and an anti-virus from Fix-It Utilities. Thanks, bubbatie1, for jarring my brain!

You should only run one antivirus program, because they can, and will, conflict with each other.
bubbatie1. Is talking about the fake AVG that has just recently arrived on the scene.

LH, ronniesonora, ALL of you Guys, it's OK. I very much appreciate ALL help. I come here to learn. Even IF I happen to have conflicting info from Members here, I personally find it enhancing to my learning experience about hardware, software, etc., etc., etc. It proves that there may not be just one solution for a problem or question. I am fascinated with the subject (of computers), short on the education, and too old to worry if you all think I am the world's biggest dingbat!!! I REALLY, REALLY DO appreciate all the input and the expertise available here.
