Hi,

I am trying to uninstall a virus protection package, Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, but during the uninstall process a window pops up saying :

"Error 1922.Service Kaspersky Internet Security (AUP) could not be deleted. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to remove system services."

What does that mean ?

I went into the C drive / Program Files and tried to delete it from there and got another message saying that "the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."

How do I close it ?

Hope someone can help, Mickmac

Out of interest, what will your AV be afterwards?

Thanks babinlonston, vistamike,

I am going back to BitDefender. I like to buy my virus protection software "over the counter" and where I am living at the moment, northern Thailand, the best I can buy here is BitDefender. I used it before I tried Kaspersky and had no trouble with it at all.

Thanks again, Mickmac

There is/are a free advantage(s) which you must look at:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

the free versions of http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.superantispyware.com/
all are free to download, update all and run deep scans.

Mickmac, put the plastic back into the wallet!

I was thinking about trying Avast, it's supposed to be ok. I know BitDefender works well. I know one thing for sure, I won't be putting Norton on any machine I own, I am sure the only reason so many people use it is because so many computers come with it already installed and a lot of the buyers don't know any better.
What are you using ?

In effect you have answered your own question! See above for recommendations but I'm sure peeps will pop in with other suggestions.
WOT and siteadvisor are good additions to your browser(s)
I don't do Norton, McAfee, AVG or kaspersky personally and they are not loaded on client's machines either.
Avast is ok, used by me in VM xp pro

Virus defense software is like food, everyone has their likes and dislikes, but I am always open to suggestions. That's why I love reading forums, finding out what other people are in to or against.

Give this try. I have been using it for over 3 years, and it works well,

Kaspersky is a good AV program. Recently many people have jumped on MSE. I run it for Vista. But for Win7 I use NIS 2011. And as you say, it is like food.

Sorry you have had those issues. I have used Kaspersky, BitDefender, and now Norton (in the last year)...they all worked well but it seems that Norton (NIS 2011) has been the smoother and faster scanning of the three (it did not come free with the computer). I'm not a promoter of any...I'm using Windows 7 and maybe that deserves some credit. Good luck....

Micmac...did you use the Kaspersky removal tool? I have removed KIS 2011 twice with it and worked fine. If you need it, I can look it up and post here....
