Customised using rainmeter. Both Pidgin and the FB feed normally run, but I disabled them for the screenshot.

And the desk:

@AlanWade: what are you using for the black windows explorer icons?

I'm pretty sure we have some members here that do use these, and was just wandering what you use and why.

@MiniGeek I get my backgrounds from wincustomize.com and change them to suit my mood maybe two or three times a week.
I use WindowBlinds from Stardock.com but although it dosnt cost a lot, it isnt free. The different themes are from the same site as my backgrounds.
@vistual I am using Windowblinds its just a case of selecting the blind you want to use and clicking OK. Then finding the icon set (from the same place) to match or suit your taste. But as I said, this involves two programs - IconPackager for the system icons and WindowBlinds for the theme.

@ MiniGeek & vistual
To take it a step further, this is my goldy weekend desktop and icons. Time taken to do this less than 3 minutes. I am sure there is free software out there that will acheive the same result just never looked as I use what I previously stated.

Background

Start Menu

Explorer Icons

Folder Icons

The icons in my Start menu are 'fast' and have to be changed manually except for the Recycle bin.

Hi SJ!! ; ) ...
sorry i didnt provide the links earlier but i was running to not be late to work ...
the theme is : :: Striped VS Vista Port ::
and these are the browser buttons : :: Alt. Browser Buttons :: (those were the ones that i had to swap. the browseui.dll)
the whole experience was fun and painless. still had a fresh image on standby just in case. but i learned a few things as well.
was the first time that i had to ever activate / use the hidden admin account. (needed to allow myself the permissions of renaming the original [which i made a copy of ] browseui.dll and swap it out for the one in that link above.)

i just swapped out my screenshot above for another one i think is nicer. if the old one still showing try hitting refresh.

Great! Looks like I'll have to do some modifaction on this though. Browse.dll is for SP1 and I have SP2 and I'm not keen on the changed startbutton and taskbar. All I want is black instead of blue :)
Mind you, started working on that a while back and never got round to finishing it <LOL LOL LOL>.

@ Vissy - I've set most things to transparent, the only thing I like to add is the black drive bar. In fact I know how to do it, but it is a patience-job and I'm rather lacking that (at least for something like this - don't mind having to be patient with the dogs or when working on a complex text, but having to create dozens of versions of the same image and painstackingly replace the green images, oh well, yuk. Too boring!).

Customised Firefox 13 Beta a bit, why? I just like messing about.
Changed the font size and style to 13pt Ariel italics. Changed the tab size of inactive tabs and changed the text colour and tab size of the active tab, Didnt/dont like the new 'Newtab' page Chrome type look so changed that back to my homepage.

I've just done some customising to chrome. I didn't like the default new tab page, so I replaced it.

The actual page is based on this:
http://flatmo1.deviantart.com/.....-212847573

Changing chrome's new tab page is not as easy as it should be. In the end I had to modify an extension, replacing the redirect HTML file. Normally the addon will redirect to the new page, making the address bar lose focus.
Personally, I really wanted to be able to simply open a new tab and type.

More info here:
Why doesn't the URL bar focus?

i first learned about it a wjile back at lifeheacker : http://lifehacker.com/5811416/.....ur-browser
then later read up on it again at makeuseof : http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/c.....s-8-theme/
i downloaded it - played with a little but didnt commit. (guess now i dont have to since ill ask you to hook me up! LOL!)
i run ff and ive always kept fastdial for my start page. the reason i was looking into the eoght start page was that updates to ff knocked it out.
the last one brought it back - go figure. anyways heres mine ...

And, of course, I have a customised my logon/lock screen.

Using this theme:
http://mvgraphics.deviantart.c.....-179849509
And the wallpaper from here:
http://www.askvg.com/download-.....e-3-build/

Note to others: Proceed with caution. Remember to backup.
On my first attempt I somehow broke UAC and lost my admin privileges, after I had renamed the old login screen. So I was left with no login screen at all. System Restore fixed the problem.

@ProstheticHead

What OS are you running? Am I mistaken, or is that Windows Server?
I'm probably wrong, but was just wondering...

so after tinkering and learning a few new things ive finally settled on something that i will probably use for a while (translated: maybe two wks instead of one LOL!) since playing around with this stuff ive found quite a few vss' that i really liked but i wanted to take a little from here and there that i liked the most and mash'em up into one.
the theme itself is "Smooth" by ~ralph1975 : http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs3.....ph1975.jpg
the shell i got from "Plexgear by" ~orpal: http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs3....._orpal.jpg
the start button is from "Satin by" ~Michel8170: http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs2.....el8170.png
the buttons are from "Alt. Browser Buttons" by ~sweatyfish : http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs3.....tyfish.png

I normally make my own. This is my most recent one, featuring Johnny Trouble :)

Johnny was abandoned by his parents, so I adopted him, but because I have to go to work and can't feed him regularly enough my mum is taking care of him.
He has grown quite a lot in these past few days and is getting stronger and stronger every day.
He follows my mum around like a dog and likes to sleep in the curve of her arm. A pity he makes such a mess! <LOL>

When he is old enough to fend for himself he'll be set free by a soft release.
He is already allowed to roam free in her garden during several hours in the day (he can't be free all the time yet, the magpies will kill him if they get the chance) and the place is big enough and has enough options to let him set up his life there if he wants to.
Secretly I hope that's exactly what he'll do: live free but stick around and be tame enough to get cuddles when I visit :)))

LOL - glad you like it :)

It's a mask and shadow added in Paintshop Pro.
I usually add some neutral background so my icons are nicely visible (that's rocketdock btw.).

Another template I often use is this:

For the background image look
here
and the frame you can find here.

In the righthand side I often add some text, like my to do list (underneath rainlendar).
And on the left top you can see my most used msn contacts :)
(blurred for privacy reasons, but you can still see LH up there LOL)
And of course I have one of my dogs watching :D

I am not sure which of my desktops you are slagging off but rest assured I would never - ever - have a 'spitty' on my desktop.
Not to worry, when you grow up and dont rely on your mother to hold your hand, then and only then you may see the world through a different set of eyes.

http://www.urbandictionary.com.....term=sarah

Sarah
A cool girl, generally pretty, smart and funny. into expressing herself through music, art, and or acting. fun to be around, and even though she may not know it, shes loved by everyone. people who hate her, either hate her for something she did or hate her out of jealousy. Shes very romantic and a little bookish, but can also be sexy when she wants to. Usually very happy/positive, unless something emotionally or mentally crusing happens.

guy 1:"did you see that girl, yesterday she looked kinda quiet, but today shes letting her true colours show!"
guy 2:"she's such a sarah"
guy 1:"I secretly love that girl! i have to find out who she is!

Hope you have a great day, SarahJames,

Found me an inexpensive LG.
Got good reviews, so I hope it will be allright :)
The one that doesn't fit is an LG too and I liked it.
Will probably use it in my other pc, which has a faulty dvddrive, just never took the trouble to build it in, since I haven't used the dvddrive yet <LOL>.

@ LH - been waiting for an opportunity to use that once. You're just my willing victim ;)

Hey LH, it serves the purpose, that's all I need it for.
Plus I can see it all the way across the room. LOL

Actually isn't that Mountain Lion default wallpaper?

I think the one in my Windows desktop is the Lion wallpaper.

Keyboards

Edit; the finish and feel is brilliant and a space saver. The KB is very comfortable to use. So I bought another!
PS, they work on Macs as well

Never easy to find keyboards, and meeces, that you really like. Then when you do, they stop makin' 'em.

Looks great :)

Have to get to work, but after that I have some troubleshooting to do.
MSN forces me to update, otherwise it won't log in.
I hate the newer version, so I want to google some to find out if there is a workaround.
Will see what I'll do with the new wallpaper after that ;)

I once had a dreamscene like that. All black background with black panther and he would blink once every 3 minutes.
Would give people the creeps <LOL LOL LOL>.

Actually come to think of it, it wasn't a dreamscene, it was a webpage with a gif - in Win98 that still worked as wallpaper. I miss that option. Had all kinds of hidden links on it ;D

I know how you feel SJ. I miss the active wallpaper thingy that Win XP sported, then came Vista & 7 with some of the worst desktop themes on earth.
I read an article a few weeks ago that said themes will soon be a thing of the past, especially in the new OS'es. :(
BTW, I predict that in a few years, Microsoft will release a new windows version called "Windows for Dummies". ;)
