@Scott - Moderator(45 posts)
Have just read through that thread, and my first reaction was shock
What a rude, selfish person who couldn't be bothered to try/or listen - nobody was going to do it for him were they, and that seemed to be what he expected
'I dont care that your first computer was a Z1,
I dont care that you had a shit holiday,
I dont care your cat/dog/mother/wife has died,
I dont know them,
I dont want to know them,
I dont care about any of your problems,
I didnt come in here to see or hear about your opinions, problems, what sex your first born was, what kind of kids you have,
I dont care that you have 24 hours to live,
I dont know you,
I DONT want to know you
I'm selfish, I just care about the problems I have'
That is just RIDICULOUS
He wasted his time typing that?
Geeezzzz . . . I just read that guy's thread. Wow . . . what an a**hole. I've seen flames in my time, but that is right up there with the most obnoxious. I expect he's gotten kicked off a couple of other boards too. And if the Yahoo folks hadn't given him an answer in "1" try, I imagine he would have flamed them too.
I think Scott did the right thing for this community. My compliments, Scott.
Good riddance, BUM!!
Well out of all due respect, the (Multilateral) who posted back the (Insult) to pepsi666 was way out of line in their response to a disgruntled person who received NO help and just "vented" out of frustration.
You didn't see my personal apology because the topic was removed so quickly.
Also you know as an old combat pilot I don't put up with or tolerate BS from anyone.
However, when one has "a hard landing and breaks the under carriage or skids, then that is exactly what it is
- A Hard Landing - NOT BS.
Agree or not, (All) of us were at Fault Here and "lessons learned" should be left posted for all to see (EXCLUDING)(EXCLUDING) the (Multilateral) (Insult) posted back to pepsi666 by HTG no matter how hostile he felt.

From that link you provided ScottW: "Bum - This is the part of your body you sit on. Your ass! It might also be someone who is down and out, like a tramp. You might also bum around, if you are doing nothing in particular, just hanging out. Finally to bum something means to scrounge it from someone."
I think the American version is closer to "someone who is down and out, like a tramp", though as I used the word it described this guy being totally obnoxious and a complete idiot.
I know he wouldn't hang around because he thinks poorly of us, but too bad he can't read here that the feeling is mutual.
Rick, what is wrong. I think I usually understand what you are trying to say. But this time you lost me completely. Are you sure you are arguing for the right cause? I anyhow think, we have said enough on the subject.
You did not see the moderator's insulting post back to pepsi666.
There was NO reason for it.
It was worse than pepsi666's post.
We were all at fault because we gave the member (NO) help at all.
HTG took a Hard Landing on This One no matter how we excuse it.

Bob, not only was that person a bum by the American definition:
2. A lazy or shiftless person, especially one who seeks to live solely by the support of others. 3. An incompetent, insignificant, or obnoxious person
he was also a bum in the British sense -- an ass -- and he was only here to bum an answer, not to learn anything.
Rick, with all due respect, the OP insulted the whole community and then some. It was above and beyond.
Every so often we get an ingrate that doesn't appreciate the time and effort we put in, for whatever reason.
We deal, we move on. It happens.
If you choose to blame me for his indiscretions, thats your prerogative.
I saved his/her post that Aleeve quoted in part . . . the really obnoxious one. The reason I saved it is because if I told somebody about it, they likely wouldn't believe it. I know I wouldn't believe someone could be that much of a . . . "bum". And if I ever showed it to somebody they'd probably say "Nahhhh . . . you made that up". So I'm really saving it just to prove to myself that someone can really be that dumb.
I wonder whether people like this understand that we are not a professional organization where you pay $50 or $100 to get an answer to their problem. After all, we are volunteers who spend countless hours trying to help people to the best of our knowledge - and sometimes the best of our knowledge is just not good enough to come up with an immediate, good answer. But as a whole, I think we are doing quite well and many people have been grateful for the solutions we proposed. If I compare this to the answers one typically gets out of the PC manufacturers help desks, I believe we are doing great. There is absolutely no need to put ashes on our heads. The HTG Forum is a great site - for most everybody - and I hope we can keep it that way.
Dang it. I'm so sick of you guys not answering my question within 30 seconds of me posting it. I don't care what your stupid desktop looks like or what O/S you are running. All i want is an simple freakin answer to my simple freakin question. Geez. So can someone please tell me once and for all....
Why does my wife spend so much time with the gardener in the garage? What the heck are they doing in there anyway? LOL.
I read that post and i completely agree with you Scott.
i was an OP at the undernet for a long time and what Scott did (yup i missed the whole thread) is right judging from the responses in this thread.
@Scott: thanks for the link. i thought my cousins were telling me to put on the seat belts when they said "belt up!" :-)
Awww, c'mon Rick.
While I can understand some degree of sympathy with the frustration of "hard landings", this guy's intent was malicious. A certain degree of grumbling can be tolerated, but you've got to draw the line somewhere.
It would be like the guy who had a hard landing going up to the commander and telling him his daughter is ugly. I suspect that, the sympathy and understanding of the commander notwithstanding, the guy would end up in the brig.
Now before you object that I don't know what the guy's intent was . . . and that would be right, I DON'T know . . . it came across as malicious to all who read it, so that is the way it was perceived and perceptions count more then intent.
His long rambling harangue was obnoxious and went way beyond frustration. A simple "F*** Vista" would have been sufficient. Or is it "Fark" in Britspeak??
So, while your sympathy and understanding for the frustrations of computing is commendable, I don't think tolerance was in order in this case.
