i have a 2008 HP Pavilion dv9817cl Notebook. it came with a 5400 ata hard drive and a quanta 30D1 motherboard. i need to know if the motherboard has a sata socket on it. if not who makes a good 7200 rpm ata hard drive for notebooks?

See this was posted long ago but I happened to be looking for other info on Quanta30D1 motherboards. You probably have the answer by now but ata is Sata. The problem you will have is that you need a downfacing adapter for the HDD. Other than that, any sata or ata hard drive will work and many companies make 7200 HDD. Western Digital comes to mind off the top of my head but there are others. HP recs WD, Hitatchi, Toshiba but cautions seagate though I'm not sure why.
