I have an Asus CG5270 desktop computer. I had windows vista and ubuntu in this computer. Recently, it started having problems booting up, saying that there was no device. Thinking that maybe it was the hard drive failing, got and installed a new one with ubuntu only. Then one day, the computer just dind't boot. The pc has power, the fans spin and the hard drive seems to be spinning. However, there is nothing on the screen (not even the Bios screen). Now, I'm thinnking it might be the motherboard.

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or something similar. Thanks for any suggestions.

Pull the power plug.
Open the case, check for any bad (buldging or leaking) capacitors.
If all seem good then remove cmos battery and let it stand for a minute or two.
Plug the computer back into power without the battery and see if it will boot correctly. Maybe try another monitor aswell if you have one.You may get an error on startup because the cmos was cleared.
If you still get power and no video after that, is your video onboard or a dedicated graphic card? Have you tried switching between them?
