I always use this method to simply boot from the CD created and erase the password.

Try this one, I think the one in the article went away or is temporarily down.

Press start an type: netplwiz - then hit Enter. Uncheck the box "User must enter user name ....." and OK. Then you input the password (twice) and Apply and you are done.

A question and albeit innocently asked but is it his computer or account?

... and the answer you would accept would be what? A member of 49 posts is a little less suspicious than a member with 1.

Did a little experiment based on this post:
"... and the answer you would accept would be what? A member of 49 posts is a little less suspicious than a member with 1."
And I can confirm that the man with 49 bullets is not as dangerous as the man with 1. Well at least I wasnt shot at this point, but the man with the loudest fart does burn a nosehair or two more than than the silent whispery type.
just my observations.....................

Which brings up the question I have always asked:

Why do folks password their own personal machine if no one uses it but themselves ??

Don't ask me !?!? (lol) (lol)

@Rick, my wife and I only users. We password the computers. So, if gone for a day or days and the house is broken into, computer will be at least harder to use if stolen.

How To Reset Password from Safe Mode:
Use f8 at boot time and boot into safe mode with command prompt. Now type without quotes
"net user YourUserName YourNewPassword" Press enter.
Now close the cmd window and reboot.
You can now log in with the password you just created.

I do not password my BIOS's, or logons. If someone steals them, they won't get anything interesting.
