(Solved) - cannot find cmd.exe

hi guys
today i was looking for cmd.exe. so when i typed in cmd in the start search box it did not show up.
i also tried to run it using the run command but it said "Windows cannot find cmd. Make sure you typed the nasme correctly, and then try again."
please help. i m using win vista 32bit sp1.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe is where it lives. Have a look, and see if it's there.

i m using vista ultimate 32bit sp1 and currently installed pc tools internet security 2010. i also looked through the the system folder but it was not there.

Try booting from a repair disk, and doing a repair.

keshav37a, Hopefully you PC tools didn't delete it while installing.

@LH if the file is missing how can making a repair disk form the O/S won't the cmd.exe file still be missing?

Edit by mod. Link removed. That file shows as infected.

g-x. There is a complete duplicate of the system on the hard drive, known as winsxs.
A repair disk can maybe pull it out of there.

@LH, your right it's in the winsys\x86_commandprompt xxxxxxxxxxx folder.

And with the repair disk, open a Command Prompt, and run the command,
sfc /scannow
