Data centers are big business and quietly support and shape much of your online experience. This infographic takes a look at the five largest centers in America.

How large is large? The smallest data center in the list is a little over 5 times the size of the average Wal-Mart super store. The largest is around 11 times larger than your average Wal-Mart and is powered by 50 diesel generators.

    Yea, seriously! What about Google’s Data Centers? Don’t tell me that they are not in TOP 5!

    Google Maps is in one of QTS’s data centers in Georgia but not the one in Atlanta, it is at the smaller facility in Swanee. Big companies like google and facebook spread out their servers among several data centers across the states to prevent total system failures.

    Part of Google is now in the new Super NAP in Las Vegas.
