Hack a Gorillapod into a Cineskate-like Camera Dolly

By Jason Fitzpatrick on November 1st, 2011

If you’d like to play around with the smooth motion a camera dolly provides (without the expense of a commercial camera dolly) this clever Gorillapod-based hack can get you started on-the-cheap.

For this hack you’ll need a Gorillapod, a drill, three bolts/nuts, and three rollerblade skates. The build is essentially a DIY hack modeled off the clever Cineskate roller system. Cineskates cost $200 and don’t actually include the Gorillapod–cost with Gorillapod is $230. This hack costs about $50 if you don’t already own a Gorillapod ($30 for the Gorillapod, $15’ish for the rollerblade wheels, and under $5 for the bolts)–that’s a substantial price difference if you just want a simple camera dolly to play around with.

Check out the video above to see not just the build process but some of the panning and zooming shots you can pull off with it and then hit up the link below for for the full guide on Instructables.com.
