Turn an IKEA PELLO Chair into a Steady Cam Shoulder Rig

By Jason Fitzpatrick on August 18th, 2011

If you’re looking for a clever way to stabilize your camcorder or video-capable DSLR, this chair arm to Steady Cam brace build is for you.

Although IKEAHacker reader Joost van der Wiel used a PELLO chair from IKEA, really the arm off any bent-wood style chair would work. You could even build it from scrap wood if you weren’t hung up on having a perfect steam-bent curve on the shoulder rest.

Hit up the link below for more pics. His submission to IKEAHacker is a little light on details but the photos are clear and the build is essentially just a shoulder stock with a cross brace. The most complicated part of the build is the follow-focus he made for his DSLR lens using a dowel rod and even that is pretty clear in the photos.
