If you’ve gotten used to making call via Google Voice in Gmail but craved additional features, today is your lucky day. Gmail calling now supports multiple calls, call waiting, and hold.

Now when you’re talking to someone you can put them on hold, accept an incoming call, and switch between the two calls just as you can with a real phone line that has call waiting enabled. Even if you don’t intend to pick up a second line you can still place a current caller on hold to effectively mute the conversation temporarily. Hit up the link below to read more about the new features at the official Gmail blog.

Call waiting is one of humanity’s rudest inventions. Either the person you’re talking with is worth talking with or they’re not. If you think someone far more important might call, for pity’s sake hang up. Boo hiss, Google.

Call waiting is a lifesaver for those of us caring for aging parents. At least with call waiting you can ignore the incomming call but it’s much better than missing the call entirely – especially if it’s the neighbor saying they just found your loved one on the floor!
