HTC Home Brings HTC’s Weather Widget to Your Windows Desktop

If you’re a fan of HTC’s slick Sense UI interface, HTC Home brings a little bit of that interface to your desktop as a combination clock and weather widget.

You adjust the size, the position, and the font of the widget as well as tweak the location for the weather and time. One of the fun little gems hidden in HTC home is the wallpaper changer. You can save wallpapers with tags inside the file name like cloudywallpaper.jpg and sunnywallpaper.jpg and HTC Home will change the wallpaper based on the weather conditions–you can read more about that feature in the documentation here.

HTC Home is open source, Windows only.

How many people share this, but for me, its a NO. It simply doesn’t work for me :(
Tried it twice, from 2 different sources, but no use…

It turns out, How-To Geek is my lucky charm ;)

    IT WORKED !!

    1. Click SHOW DESKTOP and the widget hides.
    2. Displays “AM”, even at night.

Anyone figure out how to autostart this and bypass UAC at startup?

  5. sstterry

I can’t get it change to my location. It is stuck on NYC.

  6. cmcollins

Took a couple of tries, but got the location and time to work perfectly. Works just like it does on my Evo. Pretty cool, actually.

  7. dannym

Time works well. Mine however also says NYC, and it’s clearly not sunny out, not sure im temp is correct either. cmcollins, when you say it took a couple tries, what did you try? reinstalls?

  8. Jason Fitzpatrick

@dannym: I think there is a glitch with the default weather source, Accuweather. I switched back and forth between Accuweather and MSN Weather a few times and then it autodetected my location.

Didn’t work well for me either….I have an HTC EVO and it would have been nice to have the same time and temp on the desktop but it really needs some work. Tried several releases with no luck. Time works ok but it faulted when I tried to put in my city with either Accuweather or MSN. It would be a very good widget once all the bugs get worked out.

I know this is a really noob question, but how do I get this to work on XP? Anyone know where I can find an install guide?

  11. Sepehr

    For the location:
Change the provider to MSN, then search for your city.

That’s how it worked for me :)

How the Heck do you change the skin? I tried dragging the newly downloaded skin on to the running widget, but it won’t accept it. Not in list of skins under settings.

I keep getting the erroers “Hot key already in use” & “Can’t write Log. Acces Path ‘C:\Program Files(x86)\Stealth Software\HTC Home 2.1\log.txt’ is denied”. Any ideas?

Before I download this, does it include the most important thing…. window wipers when it’s raining?

  15. Hatryst

I got the skin under the list of skins, but it didn’t apply correctly. A great widget though :)

Apps are senseless if advertised world wide yet they only support the US.

  17. Johnson

Cool. Now port it to Android so those of us without Sense can enjoy it…

  18. jason

How do you make the widget animate?

  20. James
