Walk Score Calculates a Neighborhood’s Pedestrian Friendliness Factor

If being able to walk to get good coffee, good food, and cash a check at your local bank are important to you, Walk Score crunches the numbers and shows you how pedestrian friendly a neighborhood is.

To test out the service I picked three streets from around my city and plugged them in. Two streets in the outlying city scored in the low 60s because of their distance from commercial establishments, parks, and other public amenities where as a street right in the heart of the downtown scored an 89 thanks to the close proximity of stores, restaurants, banks, and other public facilities like libraries and museums.
