Hack a Wireless Doorbell into a Snail Mail Indicator

If you’ve ever wished that you could get notification upon the delivery of your physical mail (just like you do with your email) then this hack is for you. Turn a wireless doorbell into a snail mail indicator.

Mime, a tinkerer from Denmark, wanted see if he had mail without going all the way to the ground floor of his apartment to check his mailbox.

He hacked apart a wireless doorbell and made a simple switch mechanism that would signal up to his apartment when the mail was delivered. Hit up the link below for more information including the schematics for his doorbell-to-inbox conversion.

If it can be modded, optimized, repurposed, or torn apart for fun he's interested (and probably already at the workbench taking it apart). You can follow him on if you'd like.

I haven’t dabbled in electronics for quite awhile, but I think that there’s a simpler way.
What I would do is purchase a wireless pushbutton doorbell and replace the pushbutton assembly with a tilt switch. Attach this package to the inside of the drop down door on the mailbox.
When the door is dropped down to insert mail, the tilt switch would close and ring the doorbell indoors. When the door is closed, the tilt switch would open and stop the doorbell from ringing.
