DIY iPad Stylus Offers Pen-Based Interaction on the Cheap

Most iPad styluses are blunt-tipped and over-priced. Make your own custom stylus with parts from around your workshop for free.

At technology blog RasterWeb they were searching for a DIY iPad stylus solution. After coming across the tutorial video put out by Collin Cunningham at MAKE Magazine they modified the design a bit and came up with the pen you see above–a Pilot G2 with a cleaner wire wrap than you’ll find on the Cunningham model. You’ll need a pen to hack apart, some conductive foam, a bit of copper wire, and a drill. If you don’t have any conductive foam left over from the packaging of your latest electronics project, hit up a local electronics repair store and ask if you can have a few pieces.

If it can be modded, optimized, repurposed, or torn apart for fun he's interested (and probably already at the workbench taking it apart). You can follow him on if you'd like.
