First Office 2010 Service Pack to Become Available by End of Year

If you are one of the individuals using Microsoft’s Office 2010 suite or SharePoint 2010, then you may be interested to know that the first service pack beta is set to be released by year’s end.

At the moment invitations are being sent out to select beta testers who must already be using Office 2010 or SharePoint 2010. Those receiving the invitations are also required to fill out a survey for consideration in the beta tester selection process.

From the article: “Later this calendar year we will begin an invitation-only beta testing of the Service Pack 1 for Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010.”

Microsoft does not specify when exactly it plans to allow testers access to Office 2010 SP1 Beta and SharePoint 2010 SP1 Beta.

Still, it appears that testers will get their hands on the Beta bits sometime ahead of 2011, in the next couple of months.

What are your thoughts? If given an opportunity would you participate in the beta testing or prefer to wait until a finalized service pack is available?
