Ants Marching in a Death Spiral [Video]

An unusual event to witness, the death spiral (a.k.a. circular milling) occurs when ants get separated from the colony and start following the pheromone trail of other ants in a circular pattern. The ants will continue the death spiral until they die from exhaustion (unless a lucky few manage to escape).

    Angel, since when did you start posting insects?

    @Hatryst – It was unusual enough that it got my attention and looked like it might be cool to share with others. ^__^

    Oooh… It was more than unusual !

  4. Tom

    Why didn’t someone help them instead of just filming, humans are so lame, not cool

    The ants do this in similar fashion to those with email accounts that feel “compelled” to click on attachments that deploy malware to you and all your contacts. I’m sure you’ve witnessed the “malware death march”.

    I don’t think it would be possible to help those ants.

    I reminded me of looking at the Milky Way Galaxy.

    This is what our country is doing to itself right now

    @Ron a spiral? More like a pyramid.

    Help them? I would have gotten an ant-killing spray and watch them all die! Mwahahahah! :)
