When you type a search query in Mozilla Firefox’s address bar, you see various search suggestions appear beneath your query. If you don’t find these suggestions helpful, you can turn them off. We’ll show you how.
In Firefox, you can disable address bar search suggestions for any search engine that you use. This includes Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and any other search engines you may have added.
In addition, you can selectively turn off search suggestions. This means you can continue to get suggestions in, say, private windows, while blocking them in regular windows.
To disable unwanted search suggestions in Firefox on your Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook computer, first, open Firefox on your computer.
At the top-right corner of Firefox, click the three horizontal lines.
From the menu that opens after clicking the three horizontal lines, select “Settings.”
On the “Settings” page, from the sidebar to the left, select “Search.”
On the right pane, scroll down to the “Search Suggestions” section. In this section, disable the “Show Search Suggestions in Address Bar Results” option.
Tip: To disable other suggestions in the address bar, such as browsing history suggestions, click the “Change Settings for Other Address Bar Suggestions” option and then configure the options there.
To disable search suggestions in Firefox’s private windows, turn off the “Show Search Suggestions in Private Windows” option as well. If this option is turned off already, you don’t have to do anything.
Firefox will automatically save your changes.
And that’s it. From now on, you won’t be bothered by automatic suggestions while typing a query in Firefox’s address bar. You can also disable recommended extensions in Firefox if those are bothering you too.
To disable search suggestions in Firefox’s Android app, open the Firefox app on your phone.
At the top-right corner of Firefox, tap the three dots.
From the three-dots menu, select “Settings.”
On the “Settings” page, select “Search.”
Scroll the “Search” page that opens all the way down. At the bottom, disable the “Show Search Suggestions” option.
And you’re all set. You will no longer see search suggestions in Firefox on your phone.
