If you use your Amazon Echo to add things to your shopping list, but aren’t near your Echo, there are other ways to add items to the list besides just using your voice.

The great thing about Amazon’s ecosystem is that most everything that’s stored on your Echo is also stored in the cloud and synced with other devices and services. So your shopping list isn’t just on your Echo, but it’s also on your phone and on the web. Here are all the different ways that you can add things to your Alexa shopping list.
Using Your Voice
This is perhaps the easiest and most straightforward way of adding things to your shopping list on your Amazon Echo. All you have to do is say “Alexa, add (item) to my shopping list.”

Update: In September 2018, Amazon added the ability to add multiple things to your shopping list at once using your voice. You can now say something like “Alexa, add eggs, milk, and butter to my shopping list” to have it add all those things at once as separate items on the list.
You can also ask your Echo, “Alexa, what’s on my shopping list?” and she’ll read out everything that you have on the list currently.
If you’re not home, or are not in proximity of your Amazon Echo, you can still use your voice to add items to your shopping list using an app called Roger. We have a thorough guide that takes you through the process of using your Amazon Echo from anywhere.
Through the Alexa App
If you’d rather not mess with third-party apps for controlling your Echo from afar, you can still add anything to your shopping list by using the Alexa app on your phone.
Simply just open the app and start by tapping on the menu button in the top-left corner of the screen.
From there, select “Shopping & To-Do Lists”.
Tap inside of the text box at the top next to the plus icon.
Type in an item and hit the plus icon to add it to your shopping list.
Through the Amazon Website
You can also add things to your Alexa shopping list from Amazon’s website in any web browser. Go to Amazon.com and sign into your account if you’re not already.
After that, go back to the home page and hover over “Lists” in the upper-right corner of the window.
Click on “Alexa Shopping List”.
Click inside of the text box at the top where it says “Add an Item”.
Type in the item and then click on “Add to Shopping List” off the right. The item will be added to your shopping list and will also appear in the Alexa app, as well as on your Echo when you ask Alexa what’s on your shopping list.
Bonus: Automate Tasks Using Your Shopping List
Using your Alexa shopping list, you can automate all sorts of tasks using a service called IFTTT. We have a thorough guide on how to set it up and create recipes, but with the Amazon Alexa channel on IFTTT, you can have certain things happen whenever you add something to your shopping list or whenever you ask Alexa to read your shopping list to you.
For example, we’ve written about how you can send your Alexa shopping list to your email once you’re ready to hit the store, so by asking Alexa what’s on your shopping list, this will trigger an action on IFTTT and send the list to your email address.
This is just an example out of many, so be sure to check out IFTTT and play around with the different actions that you can do.
