By default, when you type information into Excel and then press âEnterâ, Excel will move the selection box one cell down. However, what if you want to enter information from left to right instead?
Weâll show you a simple setting in Excel you can change that will solve your problem.
To change the direction the selection moves when you press âEnterâ, click the âFileâ tab.
On the backstage screen, click âOptionsâ in the list of items on the left.
The âExcel Optionsâ dialog box displays. Click âAdvancedâ in the list of items on the left.
In the âEditing optionsâ section, make sure the âAfter pressing Enter, move selectionâ check box is selected. Then, select an option from the âDirectionâ drop-down list. For example, we chose âRightâ to make the selection go from the âPrice (Dollars)â column to the âPrice (Euros)â column in the price sheet pictured at the beginning of this article.
Click âOKâ to accept the change and close the âExcel Optionsâ dialog box.
If you donât want the selection to change when you press âEnterâ, turn off (deselect) the âAfter pressing Enter, move selectionâ check box. The currently selected cell will stay selected when you press âEnterâ.
