If you have a large spreadsheet in Excel, you may want to add page numbers. Doing so is easy, and you can even add them in the format of âPage X of Yâ. Read on to find out how.
To begin, click the âInsertâ tab.
In the âTextâ section, click âHeader & Footerâ.
The âDesignâ tab under âHeader & Footer Toolsâ displays. In the âHeader & Footer Elementsâ section, click the âPage Numberâ button. A header is added to the spreadsheet and the cursor is put inside the header.
The code for the page number is inserted. Make sure the cursor is after the â&[Page]â text and add the word âofâ, as shown below.
To add a code that inserts the total number of pages in the document, click âNumber of Pagesâ in the âHeader & Footer Elementsâ section of the âDesignâ tab.
You can also insert âPage X of Yâ into the header by clicking the âHeaderâ button in the âHeader & Footerâ section of the âDesignâ tab. Select âPage 1 of ?â from the drop-down menu.
The âPage X of Yâ text is inserted into the header and the main spreadsheet automatically becomes active again.
Here we showed how to insert âPage X of Yâ into the header, but the procedure is the same for the footer.
