that’s cute. sadly, it’s also the truth.

  2. LadyFitzgerald

I own my phones; they don’t rule me. I got my cell phone just for emergencies. It’s just a plain Jane phone for making phone calls only (would you believe an Oystr?) and it stays in my purse, turned off, until I need it (which is rarely). I spent most of my life not being connected at the lip 24/7 and it still works quite well for me.

I answer my home phones when it’s convenient. If I’m busy doing something, such as showering, eating, taking care of business in the throne room, watching TV, sleeping, etc. I’ll let the call go to the machine and check it later when it’s convenient. Very little in life is so important it can’t keep for at least a short while.

Please put down the internet and go back to 1985.

thanks to the DND feature in IOS 6 i am even less distracted !

  5. LadyFitzgerald

@ Grave Beanman. Why? Because I have a life and don’t need a phone to keep me amused? Because I have better things to do than spend my time on the phone? Because I have better things to spend my money on instead of on a large monthly phone? Because I don’t want my life being constantly interrupted by selfish people demanding my attention right then? I have no trouble with embracing technology but only if it actually improves my life. I pity you because it appears you are a slave to your phone.

I don’t even OWN a cell phone anymore.

  7. Outta Control

    You missed one…

The phone should be saying in the last box, “Now DIE for not paying attention!”

Anybody else who doesn’t own a smartphone?

  10. RA

I still use a feature phone, no data plan required.

I’d rather live in 1985 again than today. LadyFitzgerald is spot on. I don’t even answer my door when it knocks, or phone when it rings, if I’m not in the mood. Too many people these days just let others walk all over their life. Running out of a shower to answer the phone, LOL! Get a clue.

absolutely agree with the pro-1985 comments! In fact, just pro-1995 would do! it makes me all kinds of sad and annoyed when i hear somebody saying that they couldn’t live without their mobile phone… when we all lived without them just over ten years ago!

For all the “haters” out there, just reverse the two comic strips!

  14. john

I do not own a smart phone. Mine are all dumber than a rock.

  15. JUSTIN

I would go back to the 80’s. I’d buy crap tons of apple and Google stock!

  16. JUSTIN

Let me clarify the Google statement. That’s when it would become available.

  17. RHG

@ LadyFitzgerald – But trolling is okay huh?

  18. Kevalin

Oh, pu-leeze. Lady Fitzgerald has commented, with substantial insight and clarity, on many HTG posts in the past… and while I may not always agree with what she says, her comments are always thought-provoking.

That is, provided those reading have any capability TO think, as opposed to spewing out the kind of juvenile insult that started this discussion–and which DID NOT come from Lady Fitzgerald.

If you’re going to bandy about the accusation of “trolling”, do the rest of the favor of being clear on what the term means, first, because it does not apply to either her first or second comments.

It’s not automatically “trolling” if you simply disagree with it.

  19. T$

People should be able to use their phones however they please. If you think you have it all figured out you’re probably just being pretentious.

  20. zenpistolero

I pity anyone who pities other people.

Only got my first dumb phone about five years ago. Have an old pocket pc for contacts and calendar. Don’t need or want a $50 per month data plan. Pay on average $7 / month for prepaid service and now have 1300 minutes accumulated because I never use it expect for short call and the minutes carry over. Sick of seeing people trying to drive and deal with “smart” phone. Don’t need the expense or hassle.

Noting how people with Bluetooth earpieces are always in communication with someone, and with the advent of Google Glass: I have been warning my friends (who are all into Star Trek) for years:

*THIS* is how the BORG got started! ];-))> (That’s a devilish grin with a goatee.)

  23. LadyFitzgerald

@ zenpistolero. You realize that you said you pity yourself?
