    I need to do this on one of my old lappies… XD

    I once soldered the power cord directly to the mother board, still works great to the day :)

    Due to the nature of my work (see my username) I often find myself far from a “standard” electrical outlet. (mostly in the spring but in summer and fall too) I’ve stitched together up to 250 feet of extension cords to get power before all the boxes were placed on the midway. I’ve used the outlets behind soda machines at closed gas stations while broke down miles from civilization. (and had to explain what I was doing to the police on more than one occasion!) I’ve plugged directly into the outlet panels of 350Kw generators, which is scary on many different levels! ;) I’ve stood shin deep in a creek to get signal …….. in the middle of cow fields in North Dakota (eaten alive from the mosquitoes, but the stars were beautiful!) Have hooked converters up to a series of car batteries. Yep, enough for coffee pot and computer :)

    I don’t get it. The power connector on that Dell is on the back. Whatever that is, it’s going into a USB port.

    The connector broke on my sister’s laptop so I had to solder the wire directly into the laptop. Of course, while I was doing it, I forgot to unplug it, so I nearly ended up electrocuting myself. It was worth it to save an old laptop and to see her so happy though.

    @indianacarnie:You ought to put together your stories somewhere. Sounds interesting.
    @Romberry: I’m not running Dell so not sure. So this is photoshop’d?

    @Romberry I have a dell sitting beside me that looks very similar to this one, and the power cable is also on the side. Maybe you are thinking of a different model?

    @indianacarnie +1 for Lisa Wang’s suggestion.

    I only recently got around to fixing the internal power connector on my Mother’s laptop. Before that I had a loop tied in the cord, which she would hook over the top of the screen so the connector would sit just right.

    @Romberry – I believe i read somewhere that dell moved the power port to the back of the laptops they make now because of this same issue with people always breaking them off. when plugged into the back of the computer you dont have to worry about the laptop sliding off your leg and busting off the jack or your mouse hand wacking it when playing a FPS game or similar.

    Obviously you mean from the power supply, not straight from mains.
