If you’re already longing for some custom screensavers on your new Kindle Paperwhite, you’re in luck. The new Kindle has been jailbroken, opening it up to all sorts of custom hacks and modifications.

For extra guidance on what to do once you’ve jailbroken, check out our guide to adding the screensaver hack and creating/adding screensaver images–make sure to grab the updated screensaver hack while you’re at it.

Kindle 5.1.x Jailbreak [via Hack A Day]

Jason Fitzpatrick is a warranty-voiding DIYer who spends his days cracking opening cases and wrestling with code so you don't have to. If it can be modded, optimized, repurposed, or torn apart for fun he's interested (and probably already at the workbench taking it apart). You can follow him on if you'd like.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to link people from a Paperwhite JB stub to pre-touch guides. The Jailbreak instructions are different, and the screensaver hack for Touch (5.0 and 5.1) firmware are completely different. (Still waiting for a brave soul to test on the Paperwhite.)

You say this update/hack/whatever is simple.
To start with I do not know what version of Kindle I have.
Please where do I find the updates/jailbreaks/whatever that you say I should install first?
Please how do I install these additions from a download on my pc

Paperwhite Kindle owners beware. NONE of these are for the PW. All old links and useless for us.

Thanks Mikeu48 for saving me a headache and a disappointment.
