Schrödinger, the physicist immortalized by the observational paradox of “Schrödinger’s Cat”, never meant for his paradox to be taken literally and for the cat to potentially exist in the box in an indeterminate state of life or death. The point of his example was to drive home the absurdity of existing views on quantum mechanics—specifically the Copenhagen interpretation, which was the prevailing theory at the time Schrödinger proposed his thought experiment.
