DIY Dashboard Camera Mount Stabilizes Your Camera on the Cheap

Whether you’re trying to film your weekend car chases without a shudder or just want super smooth video of you and your pals rolling through town, this dirt-cheap camera stabilizer turns your dashboard into a tripod.

One Dollar Store peanut sponge and scrap of high-grip rug padding combined with a few minutes of measuring and cutting is all it takes to craft a vibration dampening and stable camera mount. Check out the video above to see the build process (skip to the last 20 seconds or so to see the sponge-mount in action).

    “vibration dampening”….

What sort of fluid are you using?.

cool video , i dont have a go pro but this could be an interesting alternative to buying an expencive mount for my cell phone when im using it as a gps

Nice idea. But if you ask me, it might be tempting fate to place something like that on your dash. I can’t say what a cop might think. But I suspect there could be a case made for “obstructed vision” or possibly even “driving while distracted.” So you may want to run it by your legal team before you use it. (Don’t say you weren’t warned.)

This looks pretty cool but my car’s dashboard isn’t straight enough to hold anything.
Also, be sure not to put this near the airbag deply area or you’ll regret it pretty soon in case of an accident!

Maybe saw the peanut sponge in half , giving you two peanut sponges just thinner, and the a quick spray paint of black, or whatever color your dash is….that might reduce the “what da hell is on your dash” reaction from police, or other drivers, who might get distracted and drive into you.
