Seven Decades of Batmobiles [Gallery]

By Jason Fitzpatrick on July 17th, 2012

If the upcoming release of The Dark Knight Rises has you tuned in to all things Batman, this gallery of current and former Batmobiles covers over 70 years of crime fighting goodness.

Courtesy of Wired magazine, the spread starts with the very first Batmobile from 1941–seen here at left–which was hardly more than a convertible sports car.

A snappy red car is a far cry from the sort of urban assault vehicle the modern Dark Knight cruises around in, to be sure! Hit up the link below to check out all the incarnations of the Batmobile from Bob Kane’s original comic renditions to Chris Nolan’s vision of the Batmobile as an urban combat platform.
