Notifying Doorbell Sends You a Text and Pic When Rung [Video]

This DIY doorbell project turns your regular doorbell into a notification system that pushes out a text message and a picture of the bell ringer to your cellphone.

Courtesy of Clement Storck, a project contributor in the Make:Projects user-contributed project wiki, the Notifying Doorbell combines an Arduino board, a security camera, and the free PushingBox service to alert you every time someone rings your doorbell.

The only issue is it took 52 seconds to see who was at the door they have now left thinking you are not home.

Obviously, the real benefit is seeing who is ringing your doorbell when your not home. This is a slick way to get package delivery notification from UPS, FedEx or even the Post Office.

This also provides the benefit of seeing when someone who has no business at your house is ringing your doorbell. It is commonly known that thieves will check to make sure if anyone is home before breaking in.

Great product! I can’t wait to try this one out.

i had the same thought about the lag time. but it’s only 12 seconds from button-press to text message. the rest of the time is spent firing up the email client and dl’ing the image. much of this lag could be mitigated by sending an mms instead of sms and reducing the image size (appy-polly-loggies if any/all of this is covered in the article, which i have not yet read)
