Mod a Swiss Army Knife to Add USB Storage

You can buy a stock Swiss Army knife with a USB drive but they tend to be short on implements and mostly filled with a bulky full-size thumb drive. This hack adds a tiny USB drive to a normal knife for the best of both worlds.

How do you pull off the hybrid build? You’ll need to do a little grinding on the bottle opener to create room for your USB drive and then use a little epoxy to secure it into the slot you’ve created. Assuming you have an angle grinder (or some other suitable tool on hand) it’s a very straight forward little modification. Hit up the link below for more details.

That’s a very bad idea. There’s a reason why usb keys are made light. Here, the knife itself is way too heavy and will eventually break your drive unless you hold it straight with one hand, which counters the whole point of convenience.

Victorinox makes a swiss army knife with a USB drive in already in it.

^^ Agreed. However, it depends on the location of the USB port in question, and whether or not it’s vertical / horizontal, etc… Then there is the usage of the USB extender cable ;o) (i know, “convenience” would suggest no cable….but the cable could come in hand for other things…what if your shoelace broke??) ^_^

What a useless mod. Wreck a perfectly good Victorinox for a little flashdrive that could be attached to the knife with a little ring or something you find in any fishing tackle box. I always have my knife in my pocket and the can opener (its not the bottle opener he wrecked) is probably the tool I use the most beside the knife itself. Never mind that this knife will be way too bulky and heavy to be able to safely insert the USB drive on most computers without breaking the drive or just have it fall off.

Dumb. How about putting a USB drive on your hammer? Might come in handy when you’re working on your kitchen cabinet.

How will I open my beer if the bottle opener is gone?

    @ Scott – Use a lighter… Duh. j/k
