From HowToGeek

The How-To Geek Forum has the ability to use hotkeys for keyboard navigation, similar to Gmail or Google reader hotkeys. This page explains them.

Enabling Hotkeys

You can enable the hotkeys by clicking the "My Profile" link in the blue menubar:

Then you'll want to click on the Edit button to make changes to your profile:

Now you can find the option to enable or disable:

Make sure to click the Update button, and also make sure that all of your forum profile fields are filled out correctly.

Using Hotkeys

Once you've enabled the hotkeys, you'll see a small caret next to items. You can use the j / k keys to move this caret up or down, and then use o to open.

Once you have read the thread, you can use r to reply, or u to return to the forum homepage. The rest of the shortcuts are detailed in the table below.

Full List of Hotkeys

Hotkey	Definition
j	Move down one item (either in lists or threads)
k	Move up one item (either in lists or threads)
o (on list page)	Open the current item (from the list view only)
o (on thread page)	Go to the last item in a multiple-page thread.
u (from anywhere)	Go to the forum homepage
Backspace	Go back one page (this is a browser shortcut, works on all websites)
p	Open the current member's profile page (from the thread view only)
i (on thread page)	Go to the first item in the thread
r (on thread page)	Reply to the thread
Esc (while reply box focused)	This will cause the focus to leave the textbox, so you can then use the regular hotkeys for navigation again.
/	Focus the forum searchbox (and yes, I know the forum search sucks)
Ctrl+Left / Right	Navigates between pages in a multiple page thread or forum.
gv	Go to Windows Vista Forum
gx	Go to Windows XP Forum
gt	Go to Off Topic
gs	Go to Site Suggestions
ga	Go to Apple Forum
gl	Go to Linux Forum
go	Go to Office Forum
gb	Go to Build Your PC Forum
gw	Go to Wiki Discussion Forum
