FTP is a protocol used to transfer files between computers, mostly over the internet.

Overview

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the simplest way to transfer files between two computers over the Internet. FTP runs over TCP on port 21. When downloading a file from the Internet you are most likely using FTP from a server. File servers are typically set up so users can download files. There are many FTP utilities available today to make exchanging files easy. .
