Using Windows Live Writer

Windows Live Writer ( Download ) is the best tool by far for creating blog posts. Once you use it, you will understand why I love it so much. Here's how to set it up to connect to post on How-To Geek.

First, you'll obviously have to download and install the application. Then go to Weblog \ Add Weblog Account.

Choose "Another Weblog Service" and then hit Next

Enter http://www.howtogeek.com into the Weblog Homepage URL box, and your username and password that you created on the registration page. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one Here

You may encounter an error message about not being able to download the stylesheet. Ignore this message, it's unimportant. You can leave the Weblog Name set to whatever you want, and then click Finish

Once in the application, you should know about a few settings that will help when posting images. Just copy an image into the editor window and click on it to select it. You should see the right-hand pane change.

Select "Inherit from weblog" in the Border dropdown, and then click on the Image tab

Now select Original in the Image Size area, and then select "No link" in the Link to box. This is because we normally want to have very targetted screenshots to show the reader exactly what we are trying to illustrate, without the reader having to click through to a full size screenshot. (take the above screenshot for an example)

Now click the "Save image settings as default" button to save these settings. You should be ready to start writing articles!

Just click on the Publish button to send the post into the system. It won't be published right away, as it will be sent into a queue for editing.
