How to Sync Your Gmail / Google Contacts to Your iPad

After using a Google tablet for so long, I expected my contacts to magically be there when I started using an iPad again — especially after setting up my Gmail account. Sadly that was not the case, and I had to setup my contacts manually. Here’s how I did it.

Syncing Google Contacts with the iPad

Head into Settings -> Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Click the Add Account button, then choose Other.

Pick Add CardDAV Account.

Under server, put, add your full Gmail address as the user name, and then drop in your password. If you are using two-factor auth, you’ll need to generate an application password for this.

Now you should have your contacts in your email. I really don’t understand why this isn’t done automatically, but whatever.

Easy enough. The one issue I have had is in addition to syncing contacts is syncing Groups. Does anyone know when syncing contact to also include Groups and group members? Thanks

As far as I know you can't do that... I could be wrong.
