Installation – 8

Installation is very quick and easy following the installation wizard, the application will be up and running in about a minute.

One thing you can install or opt out of is creating a desktop icon for the Wondershare Navigator.

The Wondershare Navigator is a way of accessing other Wondershare applications you have installed.  If you don’t have the application it will quickly point you to the Wondershare site so you can quickly install it.

There are a lot of useful features packed into this video converter application.  It can convert between various stand video formats including MP4, MOV, 3GP, AVI, WMV,MKV, RM, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, FLV, ASF and more.  You can convert files to work with most portable media players and also custom edit videos side by side for best quality.

No matter which video format you choose to convert to, there is the ability to customize the video and audio settings.

As with their Video to Audio converter utility, Video Converter Platinum gets you started in 4 easy steps.

Here we will look at some steps for custom editing and video conversion.  The first step is to click on the Add button in the main control center.

Now, browse to the location of the video or videos (you can do batch conversions) you want to convert and double click them or you can drag & drop the files into the list window.

Here is a view of the files added to the list which are ready for conversion.  Notice that you can preview the video’s before conversion and can also merge multiple video clips into one file.

Hit the Setting button shown above to bring up some editing tools which will be shown in a real-time split screen mode so you can make adjustments to color, saturation, effects, etc. and compare to the original file.

In this example I added the Old Film effects and changed some other settings.  When your done playing with these effects hit ok.

You will go back to the original interface where you can watch preview the entire video with the effects and settings you customized.

Now you will want to choose the output file if you haven’t already.  Choose from a multitude of output formats from Mobile Device, Web, Portable Media Player, Apple TV, DVD … etc.  After you have everything ready to go click the green start button.

A conversion progress screen will be shown during the process where you can preview the video.  Users of slower systems will probably want to disable the preview as it uses more CPU cycles.

A successful conversion that added two files into one with the added special effects and converted to a new format.

Performance – 8

The following screen shot is from testing on an XP SP2 Pentium 4 single core system and it worked very fast.  If you and a dual core processor I imagine you would be very happy with the speed of the conversions.

As with all of Wondershare products they include very comprehensive support through online live support, FAQ, User guides, and 24 hour email support.

Conclusion

Wondershare Video Converter Platinum is a great choice if you’re looking for video conversion software.  It is very fast, light on system resources, converts most standard video formats to several others, and adds additional editing capabilities.  You can test out a 30 day trial and then it is $35.00 after that for a full license.  It will work on Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista.
