Overview

WinUtilities is a collection of tools to optimize your PC’s performance.  The suite contains utilities to clean the registry, remove unneeded files and folders, clear browser history, secure file deletion, and much more.  WinUtilities works with all versions of Windows from 98 through Vista.

Walk Through Review

Installation – 8

Installation is easy and straight forward following the Install Wizard.  After downloading the program it was up and running in under a minute.

Features – 7

The suite contains almost any performance utility you can think of and we will look at the features you will use the most.  All of the utilities are easily accessed from the main window.

You can set up what tasks run with 1-Click Maintenance which makes it easier than running them individually.

WinUtilities System Information is a utility that will give you an overview of you system software, drivers, and installed software.

You can get a nicely laid out view of system processes and performance.

If you want to make sure to securely delete your documents run the File Shredder which will also completely wash out free space on the disk.

Protect computer usage with History Cleaner which will cover your browsing tracks and recently opened documents.

Recover files that were accidently deleted on NTFS and FAT volumes.

Get rid of space wasting duplicate files on the disk.  Use this cautiously as some duplicate names are in separate directories and should not be deleted.

Easily backup and restore your registry settings with an easy to follow wizard.

Schedule the Auto Shutdown Process where you can select Standby, Power Down, Hibernate, or Log Off at specific times.

You can schedule different included utilities to run at various times.

You can change the User Interface skins with an option to download others from the website.  As of this review there were 10 other types of skins.

Ease of Use – 7

The user interface is neatly designed making WinUtilities very easy to use.  As an example we’ll take a look at running a Disk Cleanup.  From the main menu launch WinUtilities Disk Cleaner

The Disk Cleaner Wizard opens up, click on Scan Now to scan your PC for all available drives.

Then choose the disk to scan and clean up, you can also select specific folders too.

After the scan is complete you can look through the results to exclude certain items or hit Next to clear them all.

Performance – 7

WinUtilites runs very fluid and is light on system resources for most processes.  Most of the scans and deletion of files and histories were completed quickly.

Product Support – 7

There is an included help manual included in the application and their site they offer a Help Center, FAQ, and submitting support tickets to the company.  All support requests are answered within 24 hours after submission.

Conclusion

WinUtilites is a complete suite of easy to use utilities to help improve system performance.  During our tests everything ran quick and effective.  More information for the user on what each utility does could be documented better.  Also, when using 1-Click maintenance be sure to carefully select what data you want to be cleared.  It will allow you to open up Windows built in Disk Defrag utility but including their own in the suite would be a welcome edition.  There is a free 30 day trial and the cost is $49.99 after that.  If you want an easy graphical tool to help keep your PC optimized WinUtilities certainly has enough to do the job.
