Overview
System Mechanic is an optimization utility for Windows Systems. It has over 40 diagnostic, repair and optimization features engineered to work together. Rather than spending money to run several different utilities separately, System Mechanic has everything all in one application. It’s design allows for a comprehensive approach to tune-ups and system analyses that allow repairs to be thorough and diagnostic data can be reported and tracked. It will diagnose your PC, fix problems, boost speed, restore stability, clean out unused files and other clutter, and plug security holes.
Installation
Installation is straightforward following the install wizard with a couple of things to point out.
You will need to choose the installation mode based on if you own a license, want to purchase one, or run the limited trial.

During the install you need to choose the speed of your Internet connection so it can optimize the connections settings when running the utility.

You can sign up for ActiveCare Reports that will send the reports of the computer status to your email.

Features
The amount of optimization and repair tools is quite extrodinary. It includes a disk defragmenter, Internet speed monitors, hard disk repair, memory optimization, registry repair and a lot more. When first starting up the app you can browse through different tutorials to learn more about the utilities benefits.
Everything is controlled in a nicely laid out interface that can automatically achieve tasks, or use advanced options if you’re a more experienced user.

You can run optimization and repair features individually, or just kick off the PC TotalCare feature.

Automatic tasks are disabled by default, which is a good thing, and you can turn on which ones you need or want to run.

Tools are available for specific issues and functions.

Test download speeds.

It can be easily updated.

Ease of Use
The entire application is very easy to use and the first thing is to run an analysis on the system.

After the analysis is complete you will be able to choose what actions to take where most of them is just a push of a button…

or you can view the detected problems and gather more information.

After repairing some functions, a restart is required.

Here we take a look at running a clean up of the hard drive. First click on the Toolbox and All-in-one Tools.

Start the PC Cleanup utility.

You will be shown a list of clutter that can be cleaned up and select what you wish to get rid of.

After everything has completed you can exit out of this part of the utility.

Performance
We ran this on a Windows 7 system with an AMD dual core processor and 4GB of RAM and it ran very smoothly. Completing repairs and optimizations they ran very smoothly and didn’t bog down the system.

Product Support
They offer several means for getting support including a quality in app help guide. There is online help as well including FAQ, a knowledgebase, and submitting customer support trouble tickets.

Conclusion
You could install several other utilities to accomplish everything System Mechanic does, but having them all in one application saves time and makes things easier. It is truly a Swiss army knife of performance, repair and optimization tools. One thing we noticed however, is it can take several moments to launch when running the program. Other than that it seems to be very effective and should help you keep your computer running smoothly and perhaps breathe new life into older systems. They offer a free 30 day trial and is $39.95 after that for a full license and works with Vista and Windows 7 (32 & 64-bit versions).

You can purchase this version for $19 for 3 PC licenses with an 18 month subscription included (?).
Thanks for the excellent review.
Additional thought: I had to disable the newly released “Microsoft Security Essentials” since it was hogging the CPU while SM9 was working. Most probably due to the disk and file activities that SM9 was performing.
You have omitted to say how much improvement there was (or not), in the areas the program worked on. Your ‘review’ just covers how to install & run it. Would you care to elaborate?
